Peret III. Shemu // Lithograph // 2010 New Wafaa El-Nil is a series of lithographs based on the ancient flooding of the Nile River. The origins of the flooding of the Nile came from Egyptians belief that it was due to Isis’ tears of sorrow for the death of her husband, Osiris. As more and more cities expand, more and more farmland diminishes which means the abundance of farm fresh, healthy, pesticide-free foods is disappearing. This campaign strives to reveal the everyday farmer to the everyday consumer in order to form a connection to the relevance of farmland and the foods they produce. Though many of us know the importance and health benefits for eating and buying organic, it is easy to look past what is and isn’t really organic through pseudo organic [mis] branding. The campaign was created in an effort to deal with the issue of poorly designed legal documents. This urban installations’ immediate goal is to get as many people as possible to sign a petition against misleading legal documents. It is not a point to make our viewers feel it their fault for not reading legal documents thoroughly, but to point out the issue bluntly: the documents are poorly designed and we need to urge their creators to make them more accessible.
